THE LOWDOWN: LUYA (NOT SO) OUT AND ABOUT

Whilst everyone at LUYA is familiar with working remotely, it’s usually in between meetings, perched in a restaurant or furiously typing in a moving vehicle (as a passenger, calm down). So, it has been a slight culture shock to adjusting to working from home full time during lockdown. As many a PR would agree, it feels odd to be sat in front of our computer all day with this strange concept called time… (overrated in our opinion).

So, here’s the Lowdown on what’s getting us through Lockdown…

Productivity problems? Managing your team can seem like a daunting task but with the amount of digital resource out there, it’s easier than you think. At LUYA, we have always used Asana, which is software designed to help teams organise, track, and manage workload.  Basically, ‘Asana simplifies team-based work management.’ Plus, it’s more aesthetically pleasing than many of its counterparts…

When it comes to conference calling, if you haven’t heard of Zoom by now then you must be taking a serious digital detox. Shares of the remote conferencing service soared in recent weeks as it became the go-to video conferencing solution during lockdown.  Users praise how easy the service is to navigate and the that calls under 40 minutes are free to host. However, Zoom has been criticised for its lax security so if you’re discussing sensitive content, perhaps give it a miss.

We are big fans of Horizon, a cloud-based telecoms solution, which we use in and out of the office. The app sits on our phones and laptops and allows all incoming calls to be answered by any of the team. It also offers a ‘chat’ function and conference calling too, all in one place. It really is a lifeline for LUYA!

And what’s getting us through ‘outside of the office’…

Always fancied yourself as an Ivy League scholar? Well now you can live the dream thanks to Class Central and their incredible list of free online courses and lecture series from Ivy League schools. LUYA top tip, check out the series on the psychology of happiness.

Is this the best way to relieve #Coronaxiety? MoMA and artist LouiseLawler launch #DrawingWithMoMA to stoke creativity in lockdown. From Jeff Koons to Takashi Murakami’s, there are 12 incredible images available to download and use as colouring sheets. Felt tips at the ready…

Blankface is a great website that is basically just a place to share and explore ideas during quarantine. It has links to virtual museum tours and online courses, exercise videos, film/art/literature recommendations and blog posts. You can definitely lose a day or two just browsing!

Craving some culture? A few of the top UK museums are offering virtual tours of their exhibitions. Our personal fave is the The Design Museum’s programme of events, including #DesignDispatches. Every Saturday you’ll find the museum’s Director, Tim Marlow, in conversation with familiar faces from the world of design, fashion and architecture.

And finally… Searching for your working from home soundtrack? We have 11 episodes of The Lowdown just waiting to be downloaded for your listening pleasure… https://luya.co.uk/the-lowdown-podcasts/ you’re welcome.

There’s no time like the present…
