02 Mar LUYA’s Top Vegan Spots
According to the latest research by the Vegan Society, there are around 600,000 vegans in Great Britain, which is why it’s no surprise that there is an increasing demand for more vegan options and products. Veganuary, a challenge to eat vegan for the first month of the year, was launched in 2014, with 3,300 people signing up. By 2017, figures had reached 59,500 and a staggering 250,000 people signed up in 2019- with these just being the numbers of those who signed up online. It helps that some of our favourite celebrities are vegan like Ariana Grande, Natalie Portman and Ellen de Generes.
Not just for meat-free Monday, vegan dishes are here to stay. We’ve rounded up our favourite vegan restaurants in the region for your plant-based pleasure.
Kala- Manchester
The latest in the Elite Bistros family, Kala is all about serving bistro food done really well. With choices such as salt-baked celeriac, crispy kale and roasted peanut and sesame dressing or delicious roast cauliflower and butterbean mash with a salted lemon and green chilli sauce, you’ll be back for your vegan fix in no time.
Jaunty Goat- Northgate St, Chester.
Jaunty Goat’s vegan sister offers an entirely plant-based menu featuring a variety of brunch classics and a number of seasonal dishes. Alongside this, they have a wonderful range of vegan cakes and treats which makes it the perfect pit-stop for coffee and a cake.
Chef’s Table- Chester
Having opened in 2014, Chef’s Table is a multi-award-winning independent restaurant in Chester City Centre. With a separate vegan menu, you’re spoilt for choice. Our top picks are the Persian rice with a squash, pistachio and kohlrabi roast, or the salt-roasted celeriac and truffle risotto.
Grand Pacific- Manchester
Located in the renowned Grade II listed Manchester Reform Club building, Grand Pacific is a colonial style bar and restaurant at the top of King Street. Blending exotic flavours with British classics, it’s one not to be missed if you’re looking for something special. With a range of vegan and non-vegan options, there’s something for everyone. Our favourite is the spice roasted cauliflower with chilli, cumin and a spinach dahl.
Hypha- Chester
Hypha is Chester’s first vegan restaurant with sustainability is at the heart of what they do. Located on the iconic Chester walls, Hypha takes inspiration from in-season vegetables and ingredients and offers a seasonal small plates menu, an incredible Sunday Roast and sustainable cocktails, which we can personally vouch for!
