Festival season is upon us and it seems like there’s something for everyone and everything…
Ticketingplatform, Eventbrite, found that UK festivals have enjoyed a 400 per cent increase over the past four years, and that many eventgoers look for niche, unique and unusual events.
But a festival aimed at over 65’s – what’s that all about?
Introducing Parkfest
Parkfest, believed to be the UK’s only festival aimed at over-65s is the brainchild of our client, Inspired Villages – a group of later living communities across the UK. And no, you don’t have to flash your ID or bus pass to prove your later life credentials to get in – Parkfest aims to be truly intergenerational and is open for all ages to enjoy.
The festival recently returned for its second year, bigger and better than ever. A sell-out crowd of over 400 guests turned up to enjoy live music, laughter yoga, face painting, wine tasting and headline appearances from Gloria Hunniford and 4 Poofs and a Piano, at the beautiful grounds of the 78-acre Great Alne Park retirement village, in rural Warwickshire.
Parkfest also teamed up with Birmingham Jazz Festival for the event, as well as local bands, food and drink stalls and activities for children such as face painting, crafts and storytelling.
TV’s Gloria Hunniford and Dr Dawn Harper also hosted a packed talk on ‘101 ways to enjoy getting older’, sharing questions from the crowd, as well as hints and tips on how to make the most out of later life.
The link between cultural experiences and wellbeing
Research conducted by Inspired Villages, revealed that spending time with friends and family, as well as enjoying ‘cultural experiences’ such as music, film and theatre, helps to improve wellbeing for the over-55s. 68% of respondents said spending time outside improved their wellbeing and 69% said retirement meant being able to spend time on things they enjoy the most, followed by being able to spend time doing things they have always wanted to do.
Challenging misconceptions
Inspired Villages is determined to challenge the misconceptions ofover-65s and retirement communities. What better way to spend your golden years than in villages with luxurious apartments and access to state-of-the-art facilities including spa pools, in house cinemas and brasseries with seasonal wine menus… can we move in?
