20 May LUYA’s Liverpool Food and Drink Guide
World famous for its music and football, our maritime neighbour city has a thriving bar and restaurant scene to match its reputation as a cultural hub. Here, we give our top Liverpool food and drink picks…
Wreckfish
One of the city’s most talked about restaurants, Wreckfish is a relaxed contemporary bistro offering a variety of hearty, comforting dishes – think braised feather-blade of beef with caramelised cauliflower puree and Parmesan and truffle chips. For dessert, you can look forward to the likes of honeycomb semifreddo with chocolate sauce and fresh honeycomb. If you want to leave the table feeling like you’ve been hugged from the inside, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better contender that Wreckfish.
Bold Street Coffee
They’re #backin89 and they’ve been brewing up a storm. Following a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign, 89 Bold Street boasts a bigger space and a host of new offerings, including a brand-new evening food menu. A coffee connoisseur’s paradise, expect an expertly chosen selection of beans and blends and chemex brewers full of fragrant filter coffees. Is there a better scent in the world to experience whilst you enjoy your eggs and avo on toast?

Maray
This bustling little restaurant serves up some of the most exciting food in the city. Offering small plates inspired by the Middle East alongside great cocktails and wine, Maray champions sustainability, provenance and quality. The star of the show, however, is the cauliflower with flaked almonds, pomegranate, tahini, yogurt and harissa, which has a fanbase in its own right.
Duke Street Food and Drink Market
Launching June 2019, the much-anticipated Duke Street Market will be housing an array of top independent traders in the ‘new generation’ venue, which is set to become one of the North West’s ultimate culinary tourism destinations – with a core focus on artisanal methods and quality. Featuring Pilgrim, a 50-cover showpiece restaurant, and traders such as Cinder and Finca, foodies will certainly want to get in line this summer.

Eden by Red Door Liverpool
The team behind Liverpool’s favourite cocktail bar, Red Door, has launched Eden – an exclusive rooftop retreat. Offering a sumptuous, paradisal atmosphere completed with table service, Eden is decorated with whitewashed brickwork, plush cushions, foliage and distressed furniture to create a luxurious ‘Instagrammable’ aesthetic. The bespoke cocktail menu consists of an array of expertly made creations, such as The Poison Apple – a ‘colour-changing’ mix of rhubarb and ginger gin, apple Manzana verde, cinnamon syrup, lemon juice, vanilla foam and a blue pea flower shot.

BUNCH
Don’t be fooled by the small, unassuming appearance – BUNCH’s aim is to offer Liverpool’s biggest selection of natural wines alongside a simple, honest food menu, chosen from local ‘quality obsessed’ suppliers. If there’s a better way to while away an afternoon than sipping fine wines, we haven’t heard it yet.
