Food Markets – An Old Tradition Making a Popular Come Back

Quickly becoming a nationwide trend, food markets have started to pop up in regenerated buildings throughout the UK, usually in locations like derelict warehouses, old factories and unused train stations. It is expected that the total number of food markets are set to double in the next few years.

As demonstrated by Altrincham Market, this revival has already become a good thing for communities, as not only do food markets help regenerate neglected areas, but they also encourage socialising amongst the community and support some incredible independents. The concept gives budding restauranteurs the chance to try out new ideas and showcase to a wider audience. Plus, where else can you buy stone baked pizza, ramen and churro fries all under one roof?!

One of those exciting upcoming projects is Duke Street Market, which is set to open in Liverpool this April.  Having recently featured on the BBC’s My Million Pound Menu, we’re more than excited to be working on the project with its collaborative founders, Graffiti Spirits Group and Urban Food & Drink.

Tipped to become one of the top culinary tourist attractions in the North of England,Duke Street Market will house a sixty-cover showpiece restaurant, six kitchens, a sushi bar and a variety of artisanal produce and speciality drinks, all of which will offer a unique foodie experience. A host of traders have already been confirmed and include a mix of leading independent Liverpool talent, as well as operators from further afield.

One of the confirmed traders is Pilgrim, who you may have seen recently on the new series of My Million Pound Menu. This saw them receive an investment from one of Duke Street Market’s co-founders, Matt Farrell, who was a panellist on the show. Pilgrim serve Spanish cuisine, inspired by the tastes of the ancient Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. Having experienced one of the amazing pop ups they have been running first hand, we’re certain they won’t disappoint.
