20 May LUYA’s Guide to Summer 2021 Staycations
Staycations: they have become somewhat the new norm over the past 12 months and have been a saving grace in supporting tourism around the country. As hotels around the UK begin to reopen their doors this week and indoor dining recommences once again, the idea of a cosy getaway or a short city break might be feeling extremely tempting. So, we thought we would share some inspiration on the locations we think you might want to consider for your next trip.
Oxford
The historic city of Oxford boasts stunning views of its famous spires and endless tourist opportunities around its many colleges. Set up amongst the river with a picnic in one of the city’s many tranquil parks or take a bottle of fizz (or two) onboard for a spot of punting. Day trips to London couldn’t be easier by train or coach too, or for a more relaxed trip, the Cotswolds are just a stone’s throw away.
We recommend you take a trip to Blenheim Palace to enjoy their vast gardens before a quintessentially British afternoon tea at The Orangery.
Chester
Another historic hotspot, Chester’s Roman walls and gardens are a must-see for all the family. You can shop to your heart’s content amongst the Tudor-style shopping arcades and will be spoilt for choice when it comes to food and drink. Just over the border from Wales, Chester is only a short trip to the North Wales coast and Snowdonia Mountain range if you fancy a scenic walk with some impressive views – it’s a no brainer!
For dinner, choose De Noi for delicious, authentic Italian dining. For drinks, head to Red Door or Liquor & Co to sample some of the city’s favourite cocktails.
Leeds
With its wide selection of restaurants and bars, vibrant nightlife and endless shopping opportunities, Leeds is most definitely a city to add to your staycations list. Did someone say, ‘road trip’? The northern city is also surrounded by the cities, York, and Sheffield, which are only a short trip away and easily accessible by train.
Need a place to stay? Well look no further. The Queens Hotel Leeds lies amongst the heart of the city and looks forward to welcoming you when it reopens 14th June after a multimillion-pound transformation.
Brighton
Oh, we do love to be beside the seaside. If the British weather prevails this summer, Brighton is the perfect destination to head to on a warm weekend if you can’t make it to the Cote D’Azur this year. Take a walk along the pier, spend a day laying on the beach and treat yourself to some fish and chips – sounds idyllic, right?
A tip from us: hop on one of the city’s bikes to fit in as much sightseeing as possible before trying out the city’s enviable natural wine selection. We love Plateau’s sharing plates.
