06 Jan 5 Top Tips for Making Your New Year’s Resolutions Stick
New Year, New Me… that’s what we all say, right? Many of us make healthy New Year’s resolutions; to lose weight, drinks less or exercise more, but when it comes to sticking to them, that’s when it gets a little tricky. Here are LUYA’s five top tips to help make those resolutions last…
- Be Realistic
We can all get carried away making three or four resolutions that we know will be tough to stick to. Making only one resolution will allow you to channel all your energy into changing that one aspect of your life and up your chances of success.
- Make it measurable
Having a clear goal in mind will make your resolution more achievable. For example, if you want to exercise more, set the amount of time you want this to be; 30 minutes a day, 3 times a week or if you want to lose weight, how much? By assigning a measurement, you are specifying what your goal success looks like. We’re big fans of the 7-Minute Workout app – it’s genius and a great option for those pushed for time (e.g. the LUYA team!)
- Avoid previous resolutions
If you didn’t stick to them then, the changes of you sticking to them now are slim. You will be setting yourself up for frustration and disappointment, so pick something new this year.
- Enlist friends and family
By telling friends and family about your goal, you are more likely to get support and want to avoid failure. You don’t need to make a big announcement about it on social media, but letting a few people know you are serious can give you that kick to succeed.
- Don’t be too hard on yourself
Expect to slip up from time to time – if you didn’t make it to the gym that day or if you had some chocolate at work don’t beat yourself up, you’re only human. Instead, treat it as a temporary setback rather than a reason to give up altogether, and say to yourself you will make it to the gym tomorrow instead.
You got this!
